Columbus Dispatch article on Hawk Galleries' 'Brilliant' exhibition
Jonathan Capps grew up near the Southern Appalachian Mountains in Knoxville, TN. He developed a love for glass during undergraduate school at Centre College (Danville, KY), where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2005. For almost a decade following school, Capps worked as a freelance artist, designer, and glassblower, traveling extensively to learn, teach, and pursue the mastery of his craft.
In 2016 he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from The Ohio State University, and in 2018 he was awarded a U.S. Fulbright Grant in Art and Design to spend a year researching cultural, educational, and studio exchanges in glass art. Selected as a 2020 Fulbright Alumni Ambassador, Capps volunteers for the U.S. Student Fulbright Program and the U.S. State Department's International Institute of Education (IIE) to engage in outreach and recruitment.
Currently, Jonathan Capps lives with his wife and two children in Columbus, OH, working as a freelance glass artist and designer (JC Glassmaker & Co.) while teaching as a Faculty Lecturer in the Art Department at Ohio State.
